Meet Derek Oliver

THE PERSON BEHIND THE MAGIC

Growing up in Ramsgate, I went on to study psychology and community care at The University of Kent. A long career in public services followed; but I’ve always been a magician, mesmerised in my childhood by David Nixon, David Berglas and Paul Daniels – megastar members of the world-famous Magic Circle. Fast forward some years and I’m also a proud member of that very same Magic Circle (an ‘Associate of the Inner Magic Circle with Silver Star’ no less) and have been for over 12 years, rubbing shoulders with BGT finalists & those who have fooled Penn and Teller.

Now, as a full time professional magician and event host, I’ve performed at countless events: weddings, parties, barbeques, private functions, corporate events, awards ceremonies and now a regular performer at The Royal Variety Performance after show party!

I’ve won three magic awards including Close-Up Magician of the Year 2021 for one of the oldest magical societies in the UK. Most recently I was made a Presidential Ambassador for The Magic Circle for promoting magical entertainment at our HQ in London and across the world. Magic has taken me to Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, New Orleans, Seattle and Dallas (as well as the New Forest & Reading) to name a few.
