This is probably the second most frequent question I am asked when I perform. (The first being “can you make my husband/wife disappear?”). Well, yes, I am. Becoming a Member of the Magic Circle requires you to pass an exam before an audience of your peers at HQ in Euston, London. Taking that exam, in such prestigious surroundings in front of three scrutinising examiners, is to say the least – daunting. Getting the call to say I had passed has always been a magical career highlight. Being judged good enough to wear the coveted blue emblem, is such a satisfying personal achievement as it demonstrates to the outside world a level of skill in
magical performance.
This week, I was humbled once more, when The Council and President of The Magic Circle recognised my achievements in magic and contributions to The Magic Circle over the last ten years by awarding me “Associate of The Inner Magic Circle with Silver Star”. To the magic world, this is internationally recognised as a major accomplishment. On a personal level, I am extremely honoured and exceptionally privileged to receive it. (To the outside world it’s probably a bit more accomplished than Hagrid but not quite Dumbledore!). The timing was immaculate; awarded on my birthday the day after I changed to Derek Oliver Magic and launched my new website.
So now, if engaging an entertaining magician or event host is what you are looking for, you can rest assured that both the quality of my entertainment and the service I’ll provide will be of the highest standards possible.
